A Langa Voni, also known as “Pavadai Daavani” in Tamil or “Langa Daavani” in Kannada, is a traditional clothing worn by girls in South India from their teenage years through marriage. It is sometimes referred to as a half saree or a two-piece saree. At certain gatherings, girls younger than this may also wear it.

However, thanks to media and fashion attention in recent years, the Langa Voni is becoming more and more fashionable among girls and young women in casual outfits. They used to be quite plain, but nowadays you might find them with lavish embroidery, mirror or zari work, and strong hues like black and grey that were originally thought to be unlucky. In addition to conventional silk or cotton, there is a wider variety of textiles being used, such as chiffon, georgette, crepe, and nylon. To create the appearance of a Langa Voni, full saris are occasionally fashioned so that the fabric, when worn, changes color or pattern at the hip.
