For the upcoming festivities, most users started searching for the saree named Kandangi. Tamil Nadu, an Indian state, is known for its cotton-based sarees known as Kandangi.
Tamil Nadu’s Chettinad and Koorainad are two areas that follow the conventional Kandangi fashion. The Tamil Nadu government did, however, introduce numerous new varieties of Kandangi.
The interesting thing about this weave: Soon after the Kandangi weave was given its GI classification in 2019, a question regarding it was asked in the UPSC entrance exams.
The Nagarathar community introduced the Chettinadu Kandangi saree, which is indigenous to Karaikudi.
Over 250 years have passed since the invention of this type of saree, which has two borders and is checkered in the middle.
A saree in the Chettinad fashion is typically 216 inches long and 48 inches wide and is constructed of maroon, mustard, and black hues. It is thought that the sarees being produced in Karaikudi by utilizing 60se x 60se thread are modified versions of the Chettinad Kandangi based on research done by NIFT researchers on a Kandangi saree that was constructed in 1920 using an ancient variety of thread (i.e., 40s x 40s).
