Ten simple steps to wear a Half Saree (Langa Voni / Pavadai Daavani / Langa Daavani / Choli Dupatta)

A characteristic of South India, Half sarees are popular among young females who dress themselves up in their traditional garb.
It is a symbolic dress that marks the beginning of adulthood among girls.
It is a replacement for the simpler blouse and skirt used before puberty hits.
It has several names in various parts of India and there are several same types of dresses present in several states.
The difference lies in the variation in the patterns, artisanal representations of designs, and the way it is draped.

Well here are the following ten steps as to how to wear Half Saree i.e Langavoni easily so that they can make a place in your wardrobe :

  • STEP ONE: Gather the materials needed which would be the desired skirt, a blouse or Lehnga to blend well with the skirt, the drape or Voni, and safety pins.
  • STEP TWO: Wear the skirt and blouse together and make sure that they complement the drape’s appearance. Analyze the height of the skirt to ensure smooth mobility.
  • STEP THREE: Now begin draping one end of the drape. Start making pleats on the pallu section to drape it around your shoulder.
  • STEP FOUR: Try to tuck the pleats in one corner on the right-hand side of your waist so that the other corner gives a gorgeous V over your left hip.

  • STEP FIVE: After making a V shape exactly behind you can tuck the whole pleat section at the middle of your waist in front.
  • STEP SIX: To ensure safety, secure the pleats with small safety pins.
  • STEP SEVEN: To make a pallu for your right shoulder bring the rest of the length around the left to the back and then under the right arm.
  • STEP EIGHT: Try to fit the two borders so that the border of the drape is flaunted right at the center of the middle of your waistline in front.
  • STEP NINE: Pallu pleats made can be fastened with the help of safety pins to the shoulder so that they remain piled and drape falls to the legs at the very least.
  • STEP TEN: Last but not least if the saree has a loose loop at the rear tuck it in for a clean appearance at the back waist. Finally, check your mobility and ensure you are comfortable enough in it.

This attire is gaining a lot of popularity as a stunning attire that can be worn for several occasions and can suit any body type.

It can be draped in a variety of ways and are available in several styles. But it all depends on an individual’s choice of what improvisations they want in their outfit be it modern or traditional half saree design.

How to avoid heavy net saree from looking puffy

  • Avoid multiple pleats.
  • Try to make each pleat wider.
  • Minimize the number of pleats (instead of 7–8 pleats you can try to minimize it to 3-4 pleats?).
  • Start tucking it all the way from the ‘right’ side of your waist and bring it in the front, approximately 2 inches to the left of your navel.
  • When you tuck it try to keep them aligned.
  • You can pin your pleats at both ends so they all stay in line before you start tucking them.

** Make the pleats, tie the entire saree. Ask someone to press down the pleats together for you so that they form a creased straight compressed pleat.
** If you are going to be busy on the day you are planning to wear it.. then avoid too much running around.
** Put a heavy material cloth fall on the net sarees in order to keep them falling down due to the cloth weight and net is not puffed anymore.

Hopefully this helps & you’ll look very pretty in your beautiful netted saree.

Suitable Sarees for healthy ladies

With love and credits to : Ajanta

Never think you are too healthy/thin.

Never think that wearing sarees will have physical requirements. Saree is that type of clothes which can suit to any Women (Of course, now a days Men also).

It is recommended to wear the light weighted saree which would be more comfortable for a healthy lady..

Georgette Saree

  1. Silk Saree
  2. Chanderi Saree
  3. Chiffon Saree
  4. Pure Silk Saree
  5. Synthetic Saree
  6. Tasar Silk Saree
  7. Ghicha Silk Saree
  8. Handloom Saree

The dark color you should choose for that purpose & have light ornaments with it.
Suggestion: Have some vertical stripe sarees that will help you to look tall & healthy but not “fat lady”.

Just enjoy your fashion without any hesitation 🙂

(Few more suggestion from Raakhee Menon got upvoted)

Avoid LOUD patterns.
No enormous paisleys.
No enormous roses. No over sized geometric patterns. No horizontal stripes!
If the sari is opaque, it’s best to avoid wearing the pallu in ‘floating’ style.
No Gujarati style please! Unless it is totally unavoidable, that is. This is a rather unflattering way of the wearing the sari, especially for a healthy lady.

There is absolutely no hint of the body shape from the front and this makes the wearer appear to look bigger than she actually is. There is only a slight view of the midriff from the side and from the backside, and this is also sometimes completely covered up. And if you have a rear you are not too proud of, you’d not want unwanted attention to those areas either. The Gujarati style looks stunning on a normal sized woman who has a pretty waist to show off. And this is the best way to show off those elaborate zari works.

But then you’ve gotta decide if you would flaunt your zardosi or your best overall look.

Chiffon or Georgette sarees are the perfect match for curvy shape as they would stick to the body and enhance its natural curves. These fabric will help you look slim and glamorous and give you a well-fitted and head-turning look. It is always recommended to to choose dark colors and prints as they will give curvier women slim and beautiful look.

Stick to simple blouses. Plain silk blouses are the best! Keep the sleeves to just above the elbow…sleeves that are too short or too long are highly likely to make you look…umm…huge!

If the sari is gaudy, the blouse has to be toned down. There is a likelihood of the wearer looking extra-large if they wear a gaudy sari and an equally gaudy blouse.

If you are putting shoulder pleats, make sure the pleats aren’t any broader than the width of one full palm of your right hand…the entire width from the left edge of your thumb to the right edge of your little finger. You could take this as an unspoken rule of thumb. Never fails. Don’t make the edge of the sari droop over your shoulder.

Try to make a few broad pleats in the front, so that the part you tuck in does not add to the size of your waist.
Undeclared fact. Your feet WILL BE noticed. Especially since they do the continuous hide-n-seek act. Try to wear heels if you’re okay in them. The beauty of the sari is enhanced if the wearer has a graceful gait. Call it magical but I find my gait becoming very feminine the moment I am in my high heels.
And always remember to wear your footwear before you wear the sari. This helps in getting the length right. You don’t want to look like you’re dressed to face the floods with an ankle high sari. And adjusting the height afterwards is a pain. I get scared that the sari would just tumble down from the waist with all that tugging and pulling!
Choose dark colors and stay far away from whites and off-whites. Dark colors seem to confuse the beholders about the size of the person wearing the sari.
Prefer to stay away from stiffly starched cotton and Georgette saris.
Prefer to wear saris that are flowy and easy to manage.
Prefer wearing light silks and thick chiffon for regular wear.
Happy Sareeing….!!!

2 Easy Draping Tips for SILK SAREES

Silk saris are one of our most prized possessions in our wardrobe. Especially, the ones passed on to us. The gorgeous vintage silk saris.

While draping silk sarees, it’s important to understand that the length of the sari and the pallu is important. Too long of either and your saree is sweeping the floor. Silk sarees are expensive and prone to damage and the worst thing you can do is to leave it dragging on the floor. Wouldn’t you agree my friends ?

Follow these 2 easy tip next time you drape your silk saree . It will make a world of difference.

1. When draping, make sure the bottom of the saree is just slightly almost at floor level. Not too low and not too high. Remember, silk sarees are heavy and eventually the drape will come down a bit.
2. When measuring the length of the pallu, bring the fabric to the front and make sure it doesn’t go beyond the knees level or slightly below. This way, your open pallu won’t drag on the floor.

These 2 simple tips will give you a clean look and protects your sarees too.
